Best applied to damp, "towel dry" hair, or with a drop of water added to the product in your palm. Scoop a dime sized amount of Volcanic Clay, then use your fingers and palms to emulsify in a circular motion, while spreading to your fingertips. Spread evenly throughout your hair. Style with your hands for a natural look, or with a comb for a more stylized look.

Our Volcanic Clay is a water-based, matte finish hair clay that adds volume and all day hold*, yet is easy to wash out and good for your hair and scalp. Ideal for those who want texture while maintaining a natural finish, the bentonite clay binds hair follicles together to add more volume while also providing hold for styling purposes.

*Important note: if you have very thick hair, and/or you are looking for a very strong hold in order to achieve a locked-in look, you'll want to check out our Sun Wax Pomade, which is our strongest hold hair styling product. If you're looking for a lighter hold for an even more natural look, you'll want to consider our Coastal Creme Pomade, which has our lightest hold.

Church Volcanic Clay Pomade rebuilds, nourishes and styles hair - unlike most petroleum-based pomades that dry and destroy hair and scalp, our water-based, activated hair clay utilizes a potent emulsion of cleansing floral water, protectant fatty plant oils, and protein-rich botanical extracts. We hand select each plant ingredient and test each formulation for thousands of hours at our San Francisco barbershop prior to launch. Made in very small batches and bottled in biophotonic glass jars to preserve ingredient integrity and potency, you may notice small variations from one bottle to the next as ingredients change through the seasons.

The hunt for the perfect natural styling product

Big advocate for natural products with high quality ingredients, but compared to American Crew's Fiber product (which is the product I'm trying to find a natural alternative for), I find the "firm" hold to be lacking. I still find myself reaching for the hairspray after applying the clay. Given the price and the amount in the container, you can only use so much clay before the value doesn't seem quite right. Rooting for this product/company and might try other products, but just wanted to share my experience.

Hi Luis, thanks for writing --- for more hold, you should try our Sun Wax Pomade. Great as a standalone too, many people combo the Sun Wax and Volcanic Clay to get their desired result. Our products are all water-based and they work really well together. So don't reach for hair spray (yuck haha), reach for Sun Wax!

Girlfriend stole it

Used once, and it seemed fairly favorable. GF stole it (she liked the smell and hold) and it doesn’t look like I will ever get to try it again… Oh well, I tried!
